Molly is a seasoned attorney with extensive trial experience who will further bolster our litigation ranks. Molly began her career and spent many years at the international firm of O’Melveny & Myers. Umberg/Zipser LLP (U/Z) has been privileged to continually support the Public Law Center (PLC), Orange County’s pro bono law firm providing access to justice for low-income residents. U/Z regularly takes on pro bono matters through PLC and provides financial support, and U/Z attorneys have served on PLC’s board. On Thursday, June 16th, PLC held its annual Volunteers for Justice event and, once again, U/Z was a sponsor, with a number of firm lawyers in attendance. Among other highlights, Ken Babcock, Executive Director and General Counsel of PLC, was honored for his 22 years of dedicated service to the organization. PLC staff and volunteers has provided over 65,000 hours of free legal services and handled over 4,500 cases, benefiting low-income children, adults, and seniors. On Thursday, April 7th, the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) held its annual Judges’ Night. It was a special evening, as the OCBA returned to an in-person event after two years. Hundreds celebrated as the Honorable Judge David O. Carter installed the new OCBA officers and directors, including Umberg/Zipser’s own Mei Tsang as OCBA Secretary. Mei is now in line to become OCBA President in 2025, following the path of U/Z’s Scott Garner (2020 President) and Dean Zipser (2005 President).
The evening also honored our friend and former OCBA President, Joel Miliband, as this year’s recipient of OCBA’s prestigious Franklin G. West Award. We are proud of our long and continuing service to OCBA. In addition to Mei becoming an officer this year, our attorneys continue to serve as chairs for OCBA committees and sections, board members of divisions and affiliate member organizations, and members of countless sections and committees.
The California Lawyers Association has recognized California Senator Thomas J. The Orange County Bar Association Charitable Fund annual reception held last Wednesday honored a number of nonprofit organizations making a positive impact in OC communities. Scott Garner, Umberg/Zipser Partner, and Past President of the OCBA Charitable Fund, had the privilege of presenting grants to the various local non-profits. The Charitable Fund’s mission is to provide resources to organizations and programs to enhance the system of justice and promote equal justice for all.
On Thursday, January 13th, the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) installed its new officers and directors for the year 2022 in a small ceremony outdoors. We are delighted to now formally congratulate Umberg/Zipser’s own partner, Mei Tsang, on her new role as OCBA Secretary! In 2025, Mei will become the third U/Z attorney who will have served as OCBA President, following Dean Zipser and Scott Garner. Mei also co-chairs OCBA’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and as former chair of the Intellectual Property and Technology Section.
