Darian McMillan is an associate at Umberg Zipser, where she practices intellectual property law. Darian’s journey began with receiving a B.S. in Neuroscience from UC Riverside. At UC Riverside, Darian added a practical edge to her academic foundation by conducting research in a chemical and environmental engineering lab, with a focus on pathway engineering in yeast using CRISPR-Cas9. With a specialization in domestic and international patent and trademark portfolio management, Darian advises clients on trademark prosecution and enforcement, copyright, unfair competition, and licensing. Her work in patent prosecution focuses on inventions involving biology, neuroscience, chemistry, therapeutics, medical devices, and energy engineering.
Darian received her law degree from UC Irvine School of Law, and she was a judicial extern to Judge Richard E. Lee. She also was the staff editor for the UC Irvine Law Review and drafted the opening and reply brief for an appeal in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that resulted in settlement. Outside of the classroom, Darian played an active role in the Intellectual Property Law Society. Darian is also an active member of the Orange County Bar Association.
Beyond the legal realm, Darian is an avid surfer and traveler.
